Being smaller and located in the Midwest helps us keep our overhead low and provide high-quality IP services at affordable price points.Broad Experience
We have a broad base of experience, ranging across a variety of technology areas and IP-related services, including patent portfolio development, pre-suit investigations, and post-grant proceedings.Adaptable to Client Needs
We can easily adapt to client needs or preferences, including specific procedures or billing arrangements. We can provide services at hourly rates, under fixed fees, or using other arrangements that may be of interest.Experience with Complex Issues
We have experience working with complex technologies and complex legal issues, such as freedom to operate studies and litigation-related reexamination proceedings.Lower Probability of Conflicts
As a small firm, our client base is smaller, which can advantageously provide a lower probability of conflicts of interest that would bar us from assisting with your IP-related matters. After working for many years at Fish & Richardson, Kurt Krenz formed a small IP law firm in 2013 that would subsequently become Krenz Patent Law. Krenz Patent Law is located in Bloomington, Minnesota, which is just a few minutes’ drive from both Minneapolis and St. Paul.
While we provide general IP counseling to clients, we specialize in patent-related matters. We have helped clients of all sizes protect their innovation with both domestic and foreign patents. Additionally, through post-grant procedures we have helped invalidate overly broad patents that had been asserted against clients. We have also provided investigative services, including freedom to operate studies, opinions on patent validity and infringement, and due diligence investigations relating to potential acquisitions. We use a variety of tools to bring the features of a large firm to our clients in a cost-effective manner.
We can assist clients anywhere in the U.S. Clients outside of the Midwest, such as on the East and West Coasts, can benefit through the cost savings that result from using a small Midwestern firm with lower overhead.
To ensure that remote clients receive personalized attention, Krenz Patent Law provides options where Kurt can travel to client sites on a recurring basis (e.g., quarterly, semi-annually) at the firm’s expense. These in-person meetings can be used to meet with inventors, for patent summits, and for offensive or defensive portfolio analysis. We call this being your remote “local” counsel.
Krenz Patent Law is committed to pro bono legal service.
We have an outstanding track record of providing pro bono legal services, including helping pro bono inventors through the LegalCORPS Inventor Assistance Program.
