Kurt’s practice emphasizes patent prosecution and intellectual property counseling in the areas of medical devices, electronics, telecommunications, internet-related technologies, software, and mechanical devices. Kurt’s practice also includes due diligence studies, clearance and pre-suit investigations, opinions on patent validity and infringement, patent reexaminations, and reviewing licensing agreements. Portfolio development strategy, competitive IP landscape assessment, and offensive and defensive strategies are additional areas where Kurt can provide guidance.
Kurt practiced for many years at Fish & Richardson. Prior to transitioning to patent practice, Kurt spent eight years as an electrical design engineer at Tellabs, Inc. (2000-2002) and Emerson Motion Control (1994-2000), designing ASICs and FPGAs using hardware description languages and schematic-based development tools, and architecting embedded systems hardware for automated assembly and telecom equipment infrastructure products.
Kurt is an active volunteer with the pro bono LegalCORPS Inventor Assistance Program, and regularly presents on patent law topics for the Program. Kurt is also Vice President of the Bloomington Girls Hockey association, and a volunteer coach for the Bloomington Jefferson and Bloomington Girls youth hockey associations.
